Richard Vernon Harper, age 80, of Kelso, Washington passed away on June 30, 2024, at home after a short battle with cancer.

He was born to Joseph Vernon Harper and Kathryn Verona Bliss-Harper on June 18, 1944, in Longview, Washington, was raised in the local area, and graduated from Kelso High School in 1964.

Gifted with a robust work ethic, Richard dedicated his lifelong career at Longview Fibre Company, working as a Furnace Operator for an inspiring tenure of forty-three years from 1963 until his retirement in 2006. He was well known for his generosity and readiness to assist others. Richard was always happy to lend a hand with projects, car repairs, and tractor work to family and friends.

A devoted family man, Richard’s heart was ever at home with his wife, Patricia, and his treasured children and grandchildren. Together with his wife, he found great joy traveling in their RV, fishing the local lakes and rivers, and spending Summers enjoying the water with their boat.

Richard’s memory will be cherished and kept alive by his adored family members: his wife, Patricia; his daughter, Leah (Jim) McElyea; his son, Tom (Angela) Harper; his loving grandchildren, Kyle (Raime) Olsen, Conner McElyea, and Marlee Harper; his precious great-grandchildren, Elle Olsen and Gannon Olsen; as well as numerous nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in passing by his parents, his brother Donald, his sister Barbara, and his Nephew Michael.

A private interment to honor Richard's life and legacy was held on July 8th. His warmth, dedication, and spirited personality will be deeply missed by all who knew him. May he rest in peace.
