Laurie May Welch, born May 27, 1961, in Longview, Washington, to Jack Welch, Jr. and Carolyn Welch (Arneson). She passed away on September 4, 2026.
Laurie spent her life living in Longview and Kelso and had very fond memories growing up there. As a child Laurie enjoyed horses and long summer camping trips with her family. She was a talented painter and enjoyed making custom jewelry and loved music. She attended Kelso High as a member of the class of 1979.
Laurie will be remembered with deep love by her family and friends. She is survived by her daughter, Nicole Wakefield Pype, and her son, Buddy Wakefield. She also leaves her mother, Carolyn Macpherson; her sister, Deborah Haviland; and her brothers, Michael Welch and his wife, Leziel, and Steven Welch and his wife, Melissa. Laurie’s love also lives on in her grandchildren, Brody Pype, Tyler Pype, Skyler Wakefield, and Everett Wakefield, who were a cherished part of her family circle. She is also remembered by her dear friend, Alex Tovar, and by her beloved companions, Spooky the cat and Tucker the dog, who shared in the comfort and rhythm of her daily life.
She was preceded in death by her father, Jack Welch.
Those who knew Laurie will remember the place she held in the lives of the people who loved her most. Her passing leaves a lasting absence in the hearts of her family, and her memory will continue to be carried forward through her children, grandchildren, mother, siblings, and dear friend.
There will be a service at a future date, per her wishes, her ashes will be spread at Fort Flagler State Park, Port Townsend, Washington.
