Georgia Faye Marner (Joynes) passed away peacefully in her sleep and went to be with her mother Rita, father Ernie (Ernest), and brother Tom (Thomas) on June 19, 2022. She is survived by her daughter Stacy Pressly, son Matthew Marner, their spouses, and four grandsons Darrin, Skyler and Justyce Morvee, and Mason Marner. She is also survived by her sisters Bernie (Bernadette) Fultz, Mary Spanner, and Catherine Miller, their spouses, and her extended family of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.
Georgia was born on March 5, 1951 in Vancouver, Washington, the second of five children to Ernie and Rita Joynes. The Joynes family moved to Longview, Washington when Georgia was a girl. Georgia attended and graduated from R.A. Long High School in 1969, and as an adult, earned an associate’s degree from Lower Columbia College. She had her two children in her 20’s, Stacy (now a nurse) and Matthew (now a lawyer). She remained in Longview for the majority of her life, working as a bank teller, physical therapy receptionist, and legal receptionist prior to retirement. After retirement, she followed in her mother’s footsteps and volunteered at St. John’s Medical Center, before surviving a stroke in 2014.
Georgia’s great joy in life was spending time with her grandchildren. They will forever refer to her as “Nana.” She was a loving, involved, and proud mother and grandmother. She enjoyed the music of the Beach Boys, Creedence Clearwater Revival, and Garth Brooks. Georgia was a ferocious fan of WSU Cougar football, attending a number of home and away games over the years. She loved driving with no particular destination and once took a memorable road trip with her son from Longview to Tucson, ending with a monsoon flood on the freeway. Blue skies, sunshine, a good book, and her toes in the sand made her smile. She loved flowers and gardening, and would have potted flowers and hanging baskets adorning her front porch during the spring and summer months. She liked to watch police procedurals and suspense movies, as well as cooking shows. She was involved with her “Ladies Group” of female classmates from R.A. Long, having reconnected with many of them later in life. She cherished their friendships and looked forward to their gatherings where they would reminisce and share updates on family and loved ones. She traveled every year to Arizona to visit her son and his family and looked forward to the next trip the minute she returned home.
Georgia visited her parents at their final resting place in Vancouver often, finding solace in their presence. She was loved and cherished and will be dearly missed. Her legacy of kindness, gratitude, joy, and love will live on in the hearts of her children and her grandchildren.
Georgia’s celebration of life will be held at the chapel at Evergreen Memorial Gardens in Vancouver, Washington, Friday July 15, 2022 at 3:00 pm and is open to friends and family. In lieu of flowers, her family requests donations be made directly to the ALS Association - Oregon and SW Washington Chapter (http://www.alsa-or.org), an organization near to Georgia’s heart.
