Barbara & Larry Hunhoff

December 19, 1941 — April 10, 2021

Barbara “Bobbie” Lea (Mains) Hunhoff, 79, of Onalaska, Wash., died on March 26, 2021, at Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia following complications during a brief illness. Bobbie was born on December 19, 1941, in Seattle, to the late Glenn E. and Hannah M. Mains. She was a graduate of Holy Rosary High School (Seattle) Class of 1959.
Larry Hunhoff, 80, of Onalaska, Wash., died on April 10, 2021, at Tacoma General Hospital after a very brief illness and complications due to ALS. Larry was born on July 8, 1940, in Yankton, SD, to the late Walter P. and Lois L. Hunhoff. He was a graduate of O’Dea High School (Seattle) Class of 1958.
Larry and Bobbie were high school sweethearts and were married in Seattle in October 1962. They started their family immediately afterward, and Larry’s job related travels took them all around the country for several years before their return to Seattle in 1979. Larry and Bobbie shared a love for the Barbershop genre of music, a four-part melody of acappella harmony. Bobbie was a member of Sweet Adelines and Larry was a member of Barbershop Harmony Society, also known as SPEBSQSA. Both competed in quartets in Seattle, Atlanta, Houston, Tulsa, and Chicago.
Larry and Bobbie settled into their retirement years as owner/operators of Stellagarth Alpaca Ranch in Duvall, WA. After quickly outgrowing their farm in Duvall, Wash., they relocated to a larger property in Onalaska. Bobbie and Larry both served in various capacities on the Board of Directors for the local affiliate of the Alpaca Owners and Breeders Association, sharing experience and support for ranchers, investors, and anyone interested in Alpacas.
They were members of St. Francis Xavier Mission Catholic Church in Toledo, Washington, where they sang in the choir. Larry lived courageously with ALS after being diagnosed in 2014. Bobbie spent the rest of her years providing sweet and tender loving care for Larry.
Larry and Bobbie are survived by their three children, Chris (Catherine), Joe, and Lisa; Barbara’s four siblings Mike (Barb) Mains, Sue (Bill) Reilly, Linda (Gary) Shumway, and Jerry (Carol) Mains; Larry’s two siblings Carol (Nick) Westlund, and Noel Hunhoff; nine grandchildren, Justina, Katie (Love), Hannah, Peter, Paul, Thomas, Philip, Andrew, and James; one great-granddaughter, Jianna; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Through their singing, Larry and Bobbie demonstrated that harmony exists when different vocal contributions complement the other in a way to complete an arrangement in a pleasing way. In Life and in death, they have shown us that harmony exists when they each can be different yet give themselves to the other in a manner to achieve something greater than the both of them.
On Friday, April 16, a private Recitation of the Rosary and Funeral Mass will be offered at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Toledo. Interment will follow immediately at 2 PM, and is open to the public, in the St. Francis Xavier Cemetery, also in Toledo. Compliance with local COVID-19 protocol is required.
Memorial gifts may be made to The ALS Association Evergreen Chapter in order to treat and cure ALS. Online condolences may be left at www.firlawnfuneralchapel.com
