Janis Rae Tyson

June 16, 1938 — October 1, 2021

Janis Rae Tyson, 83, of Longview, Wash., passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 1, 2021. Janis was born June 16, 1938, in Bellingham, Wash., to James and Zelma (Liming) Kumbera. She attended Redlands High School in Redlands, Calif., and married Reverend Wesley E. Hobkirk in that city on May 6, 1956, enjoying 22 years of marriage before his death in 1978. She married Larry D. Tyson in Longview, May 17, 1980, and has lived in Cowlitz County for the majority of the last 45 years.
Janis was a homemaker and Pastor’s wife before being widowed at 40 years of age. Later, she would enjoy working part-time as a salesperson; a pre-school teacher at Small World in Kelso, Wash.; and at a local janitorial service.
She loved cooking and entertaining; sewing; painting; gardening; and crafting. All of her kids and grandkids had special quilts gifted to them that were made especially for them by her, but her most beloved pastime was time spent with her family at the beach and at Leavenworth.
Janis had an infectious laugh and a servant’s heart. Her love for her Savior was evident, and her love for her family was unconditional.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Wesley and Larry; and daughter, Donna Hobkirk.
Janis is lovingly remembered by her sons-in-laws and daughters, Tom and Debbie (nee Hobkirk) Douglas of Longview and Darren and Denise (nee Hobkirk) Parsons of Castle Rock, Wash.; granddaughters, Jolie and her husband, Bryan Wall, of Bothell, Wash., and Megan of Beaverton, Ore.; grandsons, Kyle and his wife, Leah Parsons of Longview, and Jack and his wife, Marinna Parsons of Ridgefield, Wash.; great- granddaughters, Nyomi Parsons of Longview and Gracie Parsons of Ridgefield; great- grandsons, Ronan Parsons of Longview and Jackson Wall of Bothell; and many other extended family members.
A memorial service will be held at 1 PM Saturday, October 16, at Kelso Christian Assembly of God, with Reverend Doug Duncan officiating. In lieu of flowers, Janis’ family asks that gifts in her name be made to Community Home Health & Hospice, Longview.
